Bangladesh Police Ramps Up Electoral Training for National Election Duty
The Bangladesh Police has an ongoing electoral training program aimed at enhancing the skills and capacity of its members to perform their duties professionally in the upcoming National Parliamentary Election. To date, 48,134 members of the Bangladesh Police have received this electoral training.
This information was released by Police Headquarters in a press release on Tuesday (November 4th).
Training Scope and Objectives
• Scale of Deployment: The press release stated that approximately 1.5 lakh (150,000) police members will be deployed in the field for the upcoming parliamentary election. The conduct of every one of these members will be scrutinized at both national and international levels.
• Core Objective: The main goal of the electoral training is to develop every police member into a skilled and disciplined professional.
• Training of Trainers: A “Training of Trainers” (ToT) course was conducted on this training program from August 31st to September 2nd.
Monitoring and Oversight
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has provided special instructions to all unit heads of the Bangladesh Police to ensure the ongoing electoral training is closely supervised. Police Headquarters is also diligently monitoring the training activities.
The IGP personally visited Rajshahi and Bogura on Sunday (November 2nd) to physically inspect the field-level electoral training activities. He exchanged views with the police trainees attending the electoral training workshop and provided necessary guidelines.
Timeline and Significance
The Bangladesh Police has taken all necessary preparations to ensure the next National Parliamentary Election is held in a free, fair, impartial, and festive atmosphere.
The electoral training program was inaugurated by Home Advisor Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) on September 7th at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium in Rajarbagh Police Lines. The current training is scheduled to continue until mid-January. This is the first time such comprehensive training has been organized for police personnel specifically centered around the national election.
